Understanding TeamSite - A Robust Web CMS

Hello CMS Hungers,

I am going to start a series of posts on Understanding of Interwoven CMS. As you might be aware of that Interwoven is a Robust ECMS product with many unique features. I like this product specifically Strong Workflow Process. So lets start -:

What is Teamsite

TeamSite is Interwoven's Web Content Management Platform, encompassing templating, workflow and versioning. TeamSite is perhaps unique in offering access via NFS and Samba to its versioning filesystem.

TeamSite uses the proprietary Intelligent File System (IFS) for storing its content. Although IFS utilizes the OS functionality of the file system and access mechanism, onlyTeamSite can understand and search the IFS, hence accounting for the ASSET security.

TeamSite has the all the capability to store very large data / Web Assets. Its Form Publisher technology help to make dynamic and static content creation.TeamSite is useful for a non technical as well as for a techies.

To create and edit a web page, a person has to simply create a Data template called DCT which the user can then use to enter data. Depending on the presentation templation selection, the user can create web pages in many extensions - .asp,.jsp,.html etc

Editing

For each content type (such as News, Instruction, or Advertisement) that is needed in the system, a data capture template, or DCT, is defined. This template describes the information to collect for the associated content type. For example, a DCT may specify a headline, short descriptive text, image, and associated image text.

An author uses a DCT to create content. That is, TeamSite uses the DCT to present the content author with the appropriate forms to complete. For each piece of created content, a data capture record, orDCR, is created. The DCR holds all the entered information (and some internal) in an XML format.

Presentation templates

When a DCR is approved and published by an editor, a publishable version is generated from the XML source. To go from the XML format to HTML (which is usually the format that is created), a presentation template, or PT, is used. There can be manyPT's associated with a DCT so the content editor selects the suitable one. A PT is also used when the content author previews the information in TeamSite

Approval

Typically, before any content can be published, it needs to be approved by a content editor. Workflow is a function which controls who receives the content for approval.

OpenDeploy

The OpenDeploy is a Content Delivery program, a separate offering from Interwoven, moves generated files from the TeamSite internal file system to one or more production file systems like Webservers. Its provides a lot of ways of deployment.

DataDeploy

The DataDeploy program, also a separate offering from Interwoven, moves data from the TeamSite internal file system (Y drive) to one or more Relational Database Systems. The database schema is highly configurable.
